Our Story
The Perkins family farm is a third generation farming operation in Whigham, Georgia. The late Tommie Perkins successfully farmed the land for roughly 60 years, always being a steward of the land he loved. Even with all of the time spent farming the land manually, he found time to start a small cattle operation. Those 50 head of cattle provided for his growing family and the families of others.
As a young boy, Tommie’s son Sammy, remembers stacking hay for the cows. When Sammy returned home from graduating from The University of Georgia, he joined his father back on the farm. In 1982, Sammy decided he would increase and improve the cattle operation and has been doing so ever since. A decade later, Lafe, Sammy’s young son could be found on the farm with his father and grandfather learning to tend to the cows and crops.
Like father like son, Lafe also graduated from UGA and followed his heart back to his roots, the Perkins family farm. From 2012 onward, Lafe and Sammy have transitioned away from the conventional ways of running their operation and poured into more regenerative farming practices. It is not uncommon to see Lafe researching tried and true methods from our ancestors blended with today's latest agricultural technologies and innovations.
Lafe is currently working on rebuilding the soil by injecting fields with liquid fish byproducts, spraying molasses and a microbial mineral tea over the crops. He is also incorporating humate tea to improve long term water holding capacity in the soil for overall soil health. While finding these practices beneficial to the cattle and soil, The Perkins continue to research and test various natural implementations in their quest for an unconventional, natural farm.
Having already started to make changes in cleaner farming practices, after the birth of Lafe’s own children, his desire for this wholesome lifestyle increased for his family as well. Lafe and his wife, Haley, knew they wanted to raise their children eating real, whole foods in its purest form. They have always been health conscious and aware of what they put into their own bodies. Knowing the origin of their food, especially meat, has become increasingly imperative in today's food industry. The importance of a clean, wholesome diet significantly grew when it came to feeding their own children. Aside from holidays or other “special occasions,” Lafe and Haley do their best to provide clean and pure meals for their family.
The Perkins felt they wanted to share this passion with other families that have similar health goals for their own families. Perkins Pastures direct to consumer beef was founded in 2023 and launched in 2024. We know the importance and how difficult it is to maintain wholesome nutrition in menu planning and meal prepping day in and day out. Especially while juggling work, soccer, gymnastics, dance, and school projects. It is our prayer that as your schedule continues to fill up that we can keep your freezer full with clean beef to make your life easier, without compromising your family’s health.
Here’s to happy, healthy, delicious eating,
